What is a Chimney Front Apron?

A chimney front apron is a lead flashing that weatherproofs the junction between your chimney and the roof on the downslope side.

The apron sits against the front face of the chimney with an upstand that tucks into the mortar, while the apron section (the “apron” itself) laps over your roof tiles to direct rainwater safely away from the chimney base. Front aprons work as part of a complete chimney flashing system alongside back gutters and side flashings to prevent water ingress.

What Size Chimney Front Apron Do I Need?

To determine the correct size, measure the width of your chimney at the base where it meets the roof tiles. This is the size you’ll select when ordering – we automatically add 150mm to each side to ensure proper overlap with your side flashings. You’ll also need to know your roof pitch (the angle of your roof), which you can measure using our simple pitch guide or with a digital level. Our front aprons are available for chimneys from 450mm to 1500mm wide and accommodate roof pitches from 20 to 50 degrees.
